it's a test for geoff's journal.

2006-10-04
I just moved this site over to a new web hosting service and I actually took a look at the content for the first time in 4 years. It would take me a million years to update everything so I guess I'll just keep putting it off. I got back from my trip to India...wow what an experience!! I'm onsite at Verizon Wireless in Warren, NJ right now. We've finished redesigning their cellphone bill and it is starting to be sent out this week so I'm almost done here. It's been pretty cool being so close to NYC.

So pretty much I forgot about this journal deal! Well right now I'm doing two things I never thought I'd be doing 1) watching figure skating and some chick named sasha cohen during the winter olympics and 2) traveling 100% of the time for work?!?!?!?!? Since my website has turned into webrot, I thought I could at least update this piece of it. I've spent the last 6 months of my life at CIGNA Group Insurance in Philadelphia. My home has been the Doubletree mostly and then the Sofitel occasionally. I've got a great view from the 25th floor of the Doubletree and the 26th floor of Two Liberty Place (where CIGNA is located). The project is nearing an end and I'll be sent who knows where at the end of March. Actually, I'm going to Vishnakaputnam, Andhra Pradesh, India for 2 weeks in late April. That ought to be fun...my friend Radha is getting married and I'm also vacationing there on the bay of bengal. will write more later!!

I guess I'm not being very good at entering journal entries...and stuff. I've finally reached the workplace funk. For about the last 8 months, I've worked at home and have highly enjoyed it. Some people say they have to get up, take a shower, and act like they're really going to work. Me, nahhhh, PJs will do. well i was getting ready to tell about how i've reached the workplace funk but I just realized I haven't really gotten there yet. I guess I'm just trying to kill time because it's like 11pm and I don't even usually get home until then but I've been ready for bed for like 2 hours [finished watching friends/scrubs/will & grace]...just trying to kill time since i'll wake up at 7am if i go to bed this early.

Let's see, i need to clean up my office floor, pay bills, and do taxes...anything else fun left to do??? nope.

2003-02-20
oh yeah, TENNIS!! I forgot to mention how much I'm obsessed with it and am enjoying it!!! I'm playing at least 4x/week now and now instead of stressed wrists & tennis elbow, my shoulder is starting to hurt again [i never got the surgery done]. That sucks because I'm getting decently competitive at the 4.0 level right now. My 3.5 and 4.0 USTA tennis teams are both in 1st place and life is grand. did i mention i loved tennis? actually it's pretty shocking because soccer was by far my best sport in high school. i guess that's not something you can really improve on later in life...it's kind of hard to get 11 people together to kick around.

SCOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! So like right after I posted that last journal entry about tennis, I tore a muscle in my superior labrum (in my shoulder) and was out of commission until a month ago. Now I'm playing about 3-4x/week again :) I decided not to do surgery. I had to take about 40mph off my serve but that's better than nothing! I closed on my house today!! It feels pretty good to be a homeowner for the first time. It only took about 30 mins so that was pretty good; I had heard some pretty good horror stories. It'll be nice to be so close to church and a lot of friends that live in Area 4.

DUDES, I'm SOOOO into tennis right now it's unbelievable!! I'm playing 3-4x/week and loving it. I'm captaining a USTA mixed 6.5 combo league this summer and we're having tons of fun. i've been unbelievably busy with work and then doing computer consulting on the side. i leave at 8am and get back at 10-11pm most days. I guess that's why i don't mind being single right now!! I don't thing there's room for anything else :) Tomorrow is the Standifords big July 4th (on 3rd) blowout party. Between the 3 yards, there will be between 1,000-1,500 people there for the fireworks. I leave for the Outer Banks Saturday!! it's a MUCH deserved vacation!

I'm kind of nervous about the band's gig tomorrow night...we're doing TONS of new songs. on a sidenote, work's still been going great and I love my job. I think I'm witnessing aural hell on earth right now...my parents, who aren't primetime tv watchers at ALL, have been downstairs for like, 2 hrs loudly debating about who's gonna be kicked out next in Survivor!!! BLAH YUCK DIE DIE DIE!!! :) The scary thing is that instead of talking about something like world peace or whatever, the whole United States is discussing this silly show, which has managed to integrate the Internet to places even as remote as the Australian outback. Thanks AOL Instant Messenger!! :) It'll probably make the front section of the paper in the morning too

ok, so it's been 3 years since I posted last practically!!! Two incidents I need to mention :) 1) stacey and I went to shoot pool with jonathan, jeff and miranda and we parked in the First Baptist Church parking lot. Stacey and I both drove and it happened to be during a Thoroughblades game. Anyways, we come back two hours later and there are policeman standing by our cars and I thought 'Oh crap, we got a ticket for parking there' but oh no, the officer says 'are these items yours' and we look over and vandalism-turds had broken into BOTH our cars!!! they stole $1,000 worth of stuff out of my car so that just made my night. Oh and i had to drive home 15 mins in the rain and it was on a Sat so I couldn't get it fixed until Monday. Thank goodness Russ and Angie bailed me out and let me use their garage. When I drove to get my window fixed monday, hmm it SNOWED and I had to drive 15 mins without window arggggh :) 2) I'm tired of driving around Lexington and looking for lots. Everytime I 'think I find a cool spot and want to check on it, I do and find out why it's so 'COOL'. Both times I've tried this, the lots have been just WAY expensive. I looked at this one place off parkers mill called Williamsburg...they looked like nice lil 1/2 acre lots so I called the owner today. Anyways, he informs me that the 'lots' I saw were just the STINKIN ENTRANCE and that the lots were actually 2-3.5 acres EACH!!!!! so of course the lots costed between 120k-190k and NO HOUSE :) I'm working at Lexmark and that's been ROCKING so far. I love the people there and I've got a LOT of work to do. Major prayer answered there :)

2001-01-31
Wow...it's 4am. I went to bed at 9pm and woke up at midnight and then 3am and couldn't go back to bed. This is pretty crazy...i usually go to bed at 11:30pm so maybe that's why :) Anyways, guess what??? I'm 2-0 in my tennis matches so far and my USTA tennis league team is kickin some major tennis bootie! Work has been going great!! I'm working with some great people and they're giving me a lot of responsibility, which I love. I'll keep y'all updated. zzZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

ok, i think i have a problem and I can't really stand it anymore. I'm either attracted to 35 yr old women or 15 yr olds who look 20-25. I don't plan it at all but that's just how it seems to happen. Anyways, both are off limits in reality and its driving me crazy. I think its like, inherited. My dads 7 yrs older than my mom; my brothers are like 6-10 yrs older than their wives. so I guess I really blame it on them. How can you ask out someone who can't drive??? what the heck!! :D Anyways, i think it's sad that john lindgren passed away this morning. he has such an incredible testimony and such faith. He was a good role model for me because he too had an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I'm just glad they caught mine so early. he'll definitely be missed but at least he's not in pain anymore.

It's been a wild and busy day today! I ate lunch with Gavin today and we had a great talk. Then I tried to figure out some crazy MS Outlook problems at a client's business. Tonight was the kickoff of Fortune High-Tech Marketing. I have a feeling this will really take off; they're starting with three services: long distance, internet service providing, and skytel paging. These are all commodities people want/have already so there's really no need to sell. As long as Paul Orbison negotiates low rates, it's a piece of cake. I'm sure I'll put some links on here in the future. I'll keep everyone posted.

The Rothman family Christmas was definitely great this year; very low key and stress-free. Christy & fam, Candy & fam, Kevin & tish, and I were there along with nongy and dad. All the nieces and nephews and I discovered a fun word game to play around the dinner table :)) Everyone opened their presents and mom got Ching and Chang from Melissa this year. Melissa and I did a dance with the figurines to the tune of 'I Like Chinese' by Monty Python. BTW, my incredibly brilliant and talented niece Melissa just received a $65,000 scholarship to Berea College!! We were definitely proud of her because only about 400 people in the US are admitted. It also makes us happy to know she can go to college debt-free!

Christmas has been GREAT so far!! I spent Christmas Eve with the Cluxton Fam and we laughed literally the whole night. They have some SERIOUS blackmail on me now...I was just being my usually crazy self and was sitting in the computer chair looking at some ornament on the computer desk while trying trying to imitate bing crosby singing like a drunk man [it was the eggnog!!]. I was in my own little world being silly when all of a sudden, Stacey says you are SO on video right now and i look over and Michelle had snuck around the living room and turned the camcorder on me!! Now there's proof that I'm insane!!! The family had to have watched and rewatched this segment like 5x on video....the look of surprise on my face was priceless!! LOMG!! We played Sequence and Michelle and I won. There's nothing more competitive than Cluxtonfamily board games; and you DEFINITELY don't mess with them during Dominoes :))

2000-12-14
ok, i'm a true computer geek. I actually just took the time to put all these journal entries into a database and wrote an html page that lets me directly put the entries into the database. I love Christmas especially because people have TONS of little parties and get togethers. We had the FCA banquet last night and that went well. Amy Liddle sang at it and Greg giles played. Bruce and Gavin dressed up like elves; I have pictures to prove!!!

It's Thursday, Dec 7th and I'm still not working :) I think I'm having too much fun with my new digital camera and new 16MB flash card! I've decided to put off all my spending until Jan 1st so I can take advantage of expensing things out next year. I have learned SOOOO much from having my own business...it's like actually living an MBA course :) There are so many factors and things you have to pay attention to and record. The hardest, most unbelievable lesson I've learned is that the best/only way to get customers initially is by word of mouth so START TALKING folks!! hahhahaa Windows 2000 started crawling on my poor lil ol machine with 64MB of EDO ram so I'm booting to NT4.0 Server now which means that my web cam won't be up for the time being. btw, I went to Nashville last week and got to see my dear friends the Johnsons, and Travis Adams. I went with Debbi Miller down there for two days to help her apt shop. I'm gonna put pics from my trip up tomorrow hopefully. adios!

We finished another client's site yesterday. Check out TheServingPlatter when you get a chance. Melody's got a great service, and as soon as I make more money, I'll be her biggest customer!!!! :) I had my 2nd interview with Ecampus today and I felt like it went really well. I finished my 2nd interview with Transdigital Solutions last Friday and I think they're checking references now. I'll let y'all know which job I take, if I get offers from both. My birthday was a couple of weeks ago so now I'm officially OLD!!!! over the hill, silver birthday, quarter of a century old!!!!!! Actually, I still feel 21. Until I get married, I think I'll still feel the same age no matter what. I think my mom still feels like 20 yrs younger so I guess I take after her.

I made it through this weekend! woo woo! I got to go to Southland's first spanish service Sunday afternoon. It's gonna be great for me to practice the spanish i learned in high school and college. Plus, songs sound TONS cooler in espanol! I heard a great saying today by whit criswell at his dad's funeral . He said to know who you love, who loves you, and ask yourself how you spend your time. That's a pretty good gauge for your life if you think about it. I can get carried away essentially 'wasting' my time often.

2000-10-28
Today was WAY busy! I went to my high school homecoming game and there were only like 4 alumni there :( That's pathetic. Anyways, I sang at a wedding tonight --Brooks Fisher and Brian West. The wedding was at the oldest church in Lexington, First Baptist on W Short St. It's a beautiful gothic looking castle building downtown. I learned one BIG HUGE rule tonight. Never EVER go to a wedding rehearsal/reception/dinner without a date or someone you know. I didn't know a SOUL there tonight and really haven't had to go this much out of the way to make conversation before in my life. I had a really good time though and her relatives are a HOOT! This is the first wedding I've sang at where I haven't known the couple so I'm learning :) Don't forget the time change tonight everyone!!! ;)

Franklin Graham came to Lexington this past weekend and there were over 1,000 people who accepted Jesus into their life. Franklin preached the exact same message all three nights almost verbatim, and God used this event to show me that He can use *ANYONE* with any type of speaking skills. We're VERY spoiled at Southland to have Mike, Rusty, Jon etc etc. I had great seats there in Rupp Arena and got to see Ricky Skaggs, CeCe Winans, Third Day, Michael W Smith, and Kirk Franklin. I learned another lesson too. Never save seats anywhere for more than like, 3 people. All these older people gave us dirty looks and put in their snide little remarks but we just laughed and went on. Carolynn and Stacey picked up tickets for the Dixie Chicks concert in a few weeks; that's gonna ROCK!!

On the way home from Jon & Allisons tonight, I had an amazing revelation about stoplights. I looked at the red light pretty closely and noticed it looked just like a little bugs eye (when you magnify it). [stop laughing at me] It doesn't stop there. Then that got me wondering what controls stoplights. Is there a timer somewhere that is synchronized perfectly with the other stoplights down the street. Is there a certain 'box' that can control several miles worth of stoplights or is it all done by software on some server downtown :) Then I thought back to how long stoplights have been around; that must have been a major breakthrough in technology when they came out. Imagine how hectic things would be if there weren't stoplights. Don't worry, I wasn't driving under the influence of any medicine :) I also just realized this totally sounds like Jack Handy except I'm being serious :)

I received an Astra 2010u scanner I bought VERY cheap off techbargains.com. It's amazing to me how many companies make equipment that are WAY less than a year old, and WAY not compatible with Windows 2000. EVERYTHING's safe and runs ok in Windows98; that's so wrong to punish people for being up to date on technology. Anyways, moan hiss boo! The fam went out to Ramseys tonight for dinner and I got my traditional Turkey Reuben...YUM!! I've prolly got to start packing soon because i'm leaving at 8am for Philadelphia until Sunday. Should be pretty fun!! Officially as of 8pm tonight, the web site design company of mine and rusty's was launched....[DRUM ROLL] www.rm-web.com

Today's a pretty great day! I've got stuff all cleaned up around the house. I'm getting ready to wire cable to my room with the help of my brotherinlaw Keith. I had lunch with Greg Underwood and he taught me alot about owning your own business and what all it takes to do that. I met him in winchester and I would have to say that driving along Winchester Road has to be one of the most beautiful drives I've made in a LONG time!! This site is 80% done [no pics or audio yet] and now I can start working on my masters project again. We're all gonna meet together and watch a dvd tonight at the ol casa. Trish and I are going to Shakertown for dinner; Larry's allowing us :)

2000-09-28
Got half of the site complete and finished the templates. I think I've spent over 7 hours on this stuff when I probably should have been sleeping :)))) Encounter was pretty good tonight; I went over to Marty's mom's house afterwards and had this banana pudding-cake stuff which was really good!
